The Cave of the Oilbirds.  Ninety km from Quito there is a unique place where vegetation and fauna dazzle every visitor. Enormous white cascades, crystalline and warm waters from the river Chiripe, and thick jungles welcome the tourists arriving to the hacienda Miravalle looking for a strange kind of bird: the Tayos. You have to get to the bottom of the cave to see them: 100 meters down. The big brown wings and some small reddish eyes examine cautiously those visitors who adventured themselves down to that magic place where your soul is fulfilled with tranquility while you’re being transported to another world. Armadillos and rare flowers like “cow’s udder” can be observed. To get there take the road to Nanegalito and then head to El Chontal.
