National Geographic Travel
Our world wonder keeps reaping successes. The National Geographic Magazine informed through its Newsletter that Machu Picchu was elected as the destiny for all travelers in 2015. The magazine sent this information to thousands of persons around the world, where one can observe as the main image a Cuzco native woman with her child in her arms, with Machu Picchu in the background. 21 images of the Inca Citadel are shown with a note together with the heading “Located in the heights of the Peruvian Andes, the citadel of Machu Picchu was hidden from the world, hundreds of years ago“.

Paddington Bear at the WTM
The past 28th November, the Premier of the film “Paddington Bear” took place in the United Kingdom. This unique character is a Peruvian immigrant that loses his parents in an earthquake in Peru, and is sent to London adopting the name of the train station where it was found, due to the fact that nobody could pronounce his Peruvian name. This classic icon of the British children´s literature was present at the World Travel Market.

“Putucos” Cultural Heritage of the Nation
The Ministry of Culture, declared as Cultural Heritage of the Nation the knowledge, and technics related to the building of the “putucos” in the department of Puno, that have been passed through generations. The “putucos” are buildings made of blocks of mud mixed with pasture called “champas”, extracted from the same ground, with which the base, walls and roof are prepared. This material is extracted during the humid season, when the ground is softer. Finally the “champas” are left to dry in the sun to acquire the necessary hardness and consistence, to built the “putucos”.

 
 

The Peruvian “cajon”
On the 1st November, the OEA (Organizacion de Estados Americanos) declared the “Cajon Peruano”, Peruvian box drum as an “Instrument from Peru to the Americas”. This recognition took place in Washington at the OEA´s Salon de Las Americas. The origins of the Peruvian Cajon go back to the latest years of the colonial era in the Peruvian coast.  It was created by the African slaves. Along decades the ”cajon peruano” was adapted to other rhythms. During the 80s the Spanish composer and guitar player, Paco de Lucia, adapted the ”cajon” to the flamenco rhythm. Since then it became known in Spain. In the year 2001 the Peruvian Institute of Culture of Peru, declared it as “Cultural Instrument of the Nation”.

Gaston Acurio
The renowned Peruvian chef was named by Relais & Chateaux, as the figure that represents the gastronomic change, standing out the vision of the chef with respect to the social compromise of gastronomy nowadays. On the other hand, his alma mater, the Le Cordon Bleu Paris and Peru´s Representation at Unesco, offered him a recognition for his contribution on the diffusion at a world level of the Peruvian gastronomy. The cocktail party offered by Unesco was presented by the Peruvian restaurant Picaflor de Paris.

 
 

Zig Zag Restaurant
Located in the Historic Center of Arequipa and facing the beautiful San Francisco Square, the Zig Zag restaurant is the special place to taste new flavors and try the culinary specialties “a la piedra” accompanied by their excellent wine. In a friendly atmosphere and admiring the historic iron staircase designed by the architect Eiffel, one can enjoy a magic gastronomic night. Their main specialties are alpaca, lamb, ostrich and cattle meat cooked over volcanic stones.

Copa Airlines
As from the 9th December, Copa Airlines will fly to the city of Santa Clara (Cuba), in order to facilitate trips to the central part of the country, and to Cayo Santa Maria, one of the suggested beach destinies. From Lima, Copa Airlines offers daily flights to Panama and on Tuesdays and Saturdays passengers can connect to Santa Clara.

Christmas in Peru is celebrated in different ways. In Cuzco on the 24th a big fair is organized where artisans get together to sell their products. In the jungle area the Nativity scenes are decorated with banana leaves and other fruits of the region.

National Museum of Archaeology - La Paz
As from the 30th September the “Museo Nacional de Arqueologia” opened its doors after having been closed during the past 4 years, due to remodeling as well as repairing important archaeological pieces. In the opening ceremony the permanent exhibition “Origenes de la Diversidad” (Origins of the diversity) was presented.

New Hotel at the “Salar de Uyuni”
The Salt Hotels, unique in the world are found in Colchani at the Salar de Uyuni, bordering the magnificent Lago de Sal (Salt Lake). Some weeks ago a new 3 stars hotel made of salt and bricks was inaugurated, it is the “Sumaj Rijchariy” with 20 rooms (12 doubles, 2 matrimonial, 4 singles with 1 matrimonial bed and 1 triple).  The hotel has private bathrooms, restaurant, central heating, telephone and souvenir shop.

The 7 new wonders of the world
The final cities are: Quito, Barcelona, Beirut, Chicago, Doha, Durban, La Habana, Kuala Lumpur, La Paz, London, Mexico D.F., Perth, Reykjavik and Vigan. Voting ends on December the 6th and on the 7th, the seven new cities wonders of the world will be known. Voting can be done through the web page: https://www.new7wonders.com/en/cities

 

Condor Park
The Condor Park Foundation is a conservation and investigation area, located near Otavalo, in the province of Imbabura, it shelters 80 predatory birds. Some birds can be rehabilitated and turned back to their natural habitat, but others can not be reinserted and are part of this center. The Dutch, Joep Hendriks, founder, mentioned  that the place started with 2 birds rescued in 2004, but it kept  slowly growing, and last year 80 birds were liberated. Entrance fee is USD4.50. Condor Park is located in an strategic point from where the volcanoes Imbabura, Cotacachi and the crater of the Cuicocha, which are touristic attractions of the province of Imbabura, can be observed.

Hotel close to Quito airport
The international hotel chain Holiday Inn has started on the 17th November building a hotel close to the Quito airport, at Tababela, that will start operating in 2016, as confirmed by the executive group members. It will have four floors, 126 rooms and all the services of a luxury hotel, including a swimming pool, gymnasium, health club, business floor, among others.

6th December: Foundation of Quito
Festivities are carried out in all the sectors of the city, parades, sport activities, car races, tournaments, the election of the queen, the Quito night on the 5th December, and dances in the streets and squares of the city. It is also a tradition the “Campeonato Mundial de Cuarenta” (World Championship of Forty) a cards game.
