Inspection visit – Puno
We went on an inspection visit to Llachon and Amantani in Puno. At Llachon we visited the house of one of the dwellers, and we shared a delicious lunch with the family. Our menu consisted of, quinoa soup, grilled trout with vegetables, oca oxalis and boiled potatoes. Continuing with our itinerary, at Amantani we visited the sacred temples of Pachatata and Pachamama, after dinner, we went to a “peña” (night club) where we dressed up with native clothes and enjoyed the night dancing. The next day after breakfast, we continued with our inspection of the houses with which we usually have business, finally returning to Puno.

Peru and the World Travel Awards
Quito was the site where the rewards of the World Travel Awards (WTA) Central and South America 2014 where granted. Peru stood out obtaining 12 awards in different categories at a South American level, not only as a destiny and tourist attraction, but  also because of its leading enterprises in the region. Peru was acknowledged as Best Cultural Destiny, Best Gastronomic Destiny, and Best Patrimonial Destiny in South America, and Lima was distinguished as the Best City to Layover in the region.

 
 

Mistura 2014 – Lima
A total of 240 establishments will offer all their flavor in this edition of the fair, with the slogan “Eat tasty, eat healthy, eat Peruvian”. Within the gastronomic innovations, there are dishes like the “Alpaca Anticuchos”, the “Huancainas Rolls”, the lasagna with an “anticuchera sauce” highlands cheese among others, and for those who rather try vegetarian styles, there will be hamburgers made of quinoa and cheese, vegetarian skewers, soya hamburgers,  vegetarian pies, among other delights. Solmartour is offering a “Deluxe Mistura Package”, that includes transfer to and from the hotel, entrance ticket, entrance by the preferential door, guided visit to the main attractions of the fair, a Soles 20 (USD 7) ticket to be spent and a pin. The cost of this package is USD 50.

 
 

Carving and extraction of the “sillar” (ashlar stone) in Arequipa
The Ministry of Culture has declared as Cultural Heritage of the nation, the technical way of extraction and carving of the “sillar” in the city of Arequipa, due to the importance of this volcanic stone in the architecture of this city. There is existing evidence of its use since the Wari era. In the time of the Colony blocks of carved “sillar” where used in all types of buildings and infrastructures.

 
 

New Geoglyphs in Nazca
The strong winds and sand storms that took place a month ago in Ica, have uncovered a group of geoglyphs in the Nazca plains. These are located on the side of two hills located at the left and right sides of El Ingenio Valley. There is a serpent of about 60 meters long by 4 meters wide, located near the well known drawing of the Humming bird. To the right side of the Ingenio Valley, a zigzag line can be appreciate by the side of a family of embossed camelides, that reaches 60 meters long by almost 35 meters wide.

 

Mario Vargas LLosa Virtual Museum
Located at the city of Arequipa, the museum opened its doors the past 17th August. It is located at the house where 78 years ago, the writer was born. The museum consists of 17 halls, through which the visitors will be able to learn about the life of the writer, the different characters of his novels and the ceremony in Stockholm in 2010 when he was granted the Nobel Prize in Literature. The place shows different stages of his life in 3D images. The visit takes almost two hours and it starts with the welcoming words of the writer. Entrance is in groups of 12 persons.

Libertador Arequipa Hotel
This emblematic hotel has acquired a modern and fresh look, after its recent remodeling, offering its guests a friendly atmosphere. The rooms have LCD Television, wake up clocks that can also be used as smart phones and multimedia reproducers and the lightning has been greatly improved. At the lobby, working and functional tables have been installed, internet spaces, as well as small sitting places where a good coffee can be shared. The restaurant has been divided in two settings. The swimming pool area has new furniture and sunshades.

 
 

Casa San Blas Boutique Hotel in Cusco
This a remodeled Colonial house of the XVIII century, located at the historic quarter of San Blas in Cuzco. Its ornamentation is in sand colors, with rustic furniture, where elements of the Peruvian Culture can be appreciated, like hand knitted items in the traditional way. The hotel has a total of 18 rooms (12 standard, 4 suite apartments, 1 junior suite and 1 senior suite). In the third floor there is a balcony from where panoramic views of the main part of the city can be enjoyed. Their restaurant called Tika Bistro Gourmet  which offers the guests a buffet breakfast every day, as well as dinner  a  la carte and room service.

From the 1st to the 30th September: Spring International Festival
The Spring feast is celebrated all over the country, but specially in the regions of the jungle, but it is in Trujillo, capital city of La Libertad department, the one that is more splendid. During the week of the feast all the streets and houses are full of ornaments, there are allegorical cars parades, and groups of school children dance along the streets headed by the Queen of Springtime, escorted by majorettes from different parts of the world, that come to show their spectacular abilities.

La Paz among the Wonders of the World
Bernard Weber, founder and president of New7Wonders, informed that the city of La Paz was classified as one of the 21 cities, wonders of the world. He emphasize that La Paz was selected because of its “regional geography and urban culture”. According to the official page www.new7wonders.com, from the 21 cities that reached the final selection, only 14 remained. The result will be given on the 7th October, and on the 7th December 2014, the names of the seven cities, wonders of the world, will be known.

 

International Airport at Santa Cruz
Due to the recent Summit of the Group of the Development Countries (G77 + China) celebrated in Santa Cruz, Bolivia has invested USD 4.000.000 in modernizing the international airport of ViruViru, including the building of a new cargo platform of 22, 000 square meters, with a capacity for 37 large airplanes. This infrastructure improvement allows Santa Cruz to become one of the most important distribution centers in South America.

 

Chinese Tourists
Due to the excellent relations between Bolivia and China, the strict formalities for obtaining a Visa by the Chinese citizens has become more flexible and now they can obtain it at entering Bolivia by any airport or frontier gate. The only requirements are: Filling of the Visa format, 2 photographs 4 x 4 without glasses, passport with a validity of 6 months at the time of their arrival, and air tickets in case they leave by plane, the itinerary and USD 50 to be paid in cash, the bills must be in perfect shape. Welcome to Bolivia!

Ecuador and the World Travel Awards
During the night of the red carpet of the world tourism, Ecuador and Quito for the second consecutive year won the prizes as “Leader Green Destiny in South America” and “Leader Destiny in South America”, respectively. The Ministry of Tourism was also acknowledged as the best tourism office.

 

Routes Quito-New airport
At present there are two main routes to get to the new Mariscal Sucre Airport in Quito, located approximately 35 km (22 miles) East of the city. The first one, is used by travelers that are located in the central zone of Quito where the majority of the hotels are situated, it starts by the Interoceanica Avenue that crosses the valleys of Tumbaco and Cumbaya, and depending on the time of the day and the traffic, it takes over one hour to reach the airport. The new route, Collas-Tababela recently inaugurated, allows travelers coming from the North of the city, to take the Panamericana up to kilometer 7.5 and connect with this new highway from where it takes approximately 15 minutes to reach the airport. It is important to have in mind that it depends on the location where the traveler is in the city of Quito, the time of the day and the traffic that it takes between 15 to 40 minutes to reach the start of any of these routings mentioned before, therefore it is advisable to consider 1 hour and 30 minutes of journey.

23rd and 24th September: Feast  of the “Virgen de las Mercedes” – Cotopaxi
The “Virgen de las Mercedes” is celebrated with masquerades, regional bands, fireworks, a midnight mass and a folklore festival. At the province of Cotopàxi, the image receives the name of “Mama Negra” (Black Mother) because of the color of its face. This festivity is one of the most famous in the country. Great street parades take place, where the locals dress up as politicians, there are also fireworks and music bands. It is believe that this celebration has a native root, in spite of its Christian aspect.
