The Orient Express chain celebrates its 10 anniversary in Peru. Cusco and Machu Picchu. Due to heavy rains, several landslides have occurred affecting the railway in the route Cusco – Machu Picchu. The train service has been cancelled and Peru Rail, in order to reduce the impact of this natural disaster on the tourism industry, is evaluating different alternatives to re-establish the tourist flow to Machu Picchu.

The Peru Travel Mart (PTM) 2010, the most important tourism fair in the country, will have a new format this year. The PTM has been divided in 4 stages: 3 specialized virtual activities that will be held during the year and the traditional implying presence event to be held in September.

The World Longboard Championship. For the first time, Peru has hosted the world championship called “Huanchaco Longboard Pro-Peru 2010”, in the district of Huanchaco, province of Trujillo. This event was held from January 27th to 30th and its participants were the best professional surfers from the United States, Hawaii, France, Australia, Spain and South America.

New domestic airlines routes:
Peruvian Airlines: Two daily flights to Cusco starting March 16th.

The Spanish airline Air Europa will start flying Lima – Madrid – Lima on February 22nd with three weekly flights.

The Peruvian airline Star Peru will cover the route Cusco – Rio Branco (Brazil) from the first quarter of 2010, with two weekly flights. Likewise, it will operate the route Pucallpa – Cruzeiro do Sul with one weekly flight.

The Libertador hotel chain announces the soft opening of its Tambo del Inka hotel, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa situated at the Sacred Valley of the Incas, on March 31st, 2010.

Casa Andina Classic Arequipa Convento. The contract signed between Casa Andina hotel chain and the Posada del Monasterio hotel owners of Arequipa, has been cancelled. Therefore, the Posada del Monasterio will still operate as such.

 

 

N O V E L T I E S

Surf lessons have become the new attraction for tourists coming from Europe and the United States to our capital city. They can have a one time experience (two hours) or take 10 one hour lessons. The lessons include techniques to stand up, how to displace in the water, to keep the board in position, and to pass big and small waves. They also include the board and the suit.

February 1st – 09th: Virgen de la Candelaria Feast – Puno
From February 1st to the 09th Puno celebrates the festivity of the Candelaria Virgin with more than 25,000 musicians and dancers in a great parade of color, music, lights and wonderful dances. During these days the city of Puno becomes the folkloric capital of the Americas.

New Aquarium. In the community of Valdivia, province of Santa Elena, Guayaquil, a new aquarium is being built. Its opening is foreseen for mid February. The run will start with the individual aquariums; then, it continues thru a path of sand where you can observe caimans and crocodiles; then, a visiting and resting center with sea relics; the pools of sea wolves and penguins; the space for sea birds; a 13 meter aquarium with several fish; and finally, the area where you can find all sorts of handcraft from the Valdivia culture.
